About Charlesview, Inc.
Charlesview, Inc. is dedicated to advancing the well-being of individuals and families and to promoting the diversity and vibrancy of the Allston-Brighton community. We do this by providing healthy, affordable homes; offering programs designed to enrich, educate and inspire; and engaging in innovative philanthropy.
We are deeply rooted in the Allston-Brighton community.
Charlesview, Inc. was formed in 1969 by a consortium of religious organizations to provide quality housing and preserve a close-knit Allston-Brighton neighborhood amid tensions over urban renewal. Five congregations joined together to build an affordable housing development at Barry’s Corner named Charlesview Apartments. Today a vibrant new residential community has been created to continue the tradition of this proud neighborhood.
Three of the founding congregations – St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Community United Methodist Church and Congregation Kadimah-Toras Moshe still actively manage Charlesview, Inc., under the leadership of its board of directors and executive director. Working together and with the community, Charleview, Inc. replaced the original apartments with Charlesview Residences – a new 240-unit, mixed-income housing and commercial complex at Brighton Mills that includes the Josephine A. Fiorentino Community Center, a resource for the whole community.
