We are deeply rooted in the Allston-Brighton community.
Charlesview, Inc. was formed in 1969 by a consortium of religious organizations to provide quality housing and preserve a close-knit Allston-Brighton neighborhood amid tensions over urban renewal. Five congregations joined together to build an affordable housing development at Barry’s Corner named Charlesview Apartments. Today a vibrant new residential community has been created to continue the tradition of this proud neighborhood.
Members of two of the founding congregations—St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and Congregation Kadimah-Toras Moshe—actively oversee the work of Charlesview, Inc., under the leadership of its board of directors and executive director. Working together and with the community, Charleview, Inc. replaced the original apartments with Charlesview Residences—a new 240-unit, mixed-income housing and commercial complex at Brighton Mills that includes the Josephine A. Fiorentino Community Center, a resource for the whole community.
On one of the coldest days in January 2013, the Charlesview Board of Directors celebrated the unveiling of the cornerstone with members of the community, city, and construction staff. The cornerstone signifies the longstanding history of collaboration of the three religious communities and their commitment to high-quality housing that is affordable to all.
